Tang figurines

Pottery figurines are those little statues placed in the tombs to accompany the dead. In Shang China servants, concubines and guards were supposed to follow their master in the grave; these mass immolations were substituted with the burial of pottery models already by the Zhou dynasty, and the custom persisted up to the Ming. The following figurines were all moulded during the Tang dynasty, a so-called golden period for Chinese history and culture.

About us

Sinophilia was born in 1998 as a meeting-point for China-lovers. In these years we have managed to build a database of essential information on the Chinese culture, adding here and there a few more specific essays on Chinese art, history, language and religions, and some useful tools.
